In a shocking turn of events, the entertainment industry mourns the untimely demise of Mexican actor and singer Adan Canto, who passed away at the age of 42. Best known for his notable roles in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Agent Game,” as well as his current role in the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” Canto’s passing has left a void in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike.
Publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed that Canto lost his battle with appendiceal cancer, a diagnosis he had chosen to keep private. Allen expressed, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”
Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and raised in Texas, Canto embarked on his career at the young age of 16, initially pursuing a path as a singer-songwriter before venturing into acting. His talent shone early, marking his American debut in Kevin Williamson’s 2013 Fox drama series “The Following,” alongside Kevin Bacon.
Canto’s repertoire of roles included Vice President-elect Aaron Shore on “Designated Survivor,” Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on “Narcos,” and the mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” His impact extended beyond acting, as he directed two short films, showcasing his diverse skills.
Tragically, at the time of his passing, Canto was starring as Armand Morales on Fox’s “The Cleaning Lady,” currently in production for its third season. His absence during filming was due to his battle with illness, but he harbored hopes of rejoining later in the season.
Friends and colleagues remember Canto for his broad smile, boisterous laugh, and a rare combination of sensitivity and humility. Kiefer Sutherland, who shared the screen with Canto on “Designated Survivor,” paid tribute on Instagram, lamenting the loss of a wonderful spirit and praising Canto’s dedication to his craft.
Adan Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and two young children, Roman Alder, 3, and Eve Josephine, 18 months. The entertainment industry, along with fans worldwide, grieves the loss of a talented artist whose legacy will endure through his contributions to film and television.
